“Dancing is the Joy that comes from your Heart”, is Suzanne’s philosophy. As an avid world traveler, Suzanne has been fortunate to share her love of art & dance on most every continent. Suzanne Hamdi was named “Hawaii’s Ambassador of Belly Dance”© in Habibi International Dance Magazine 1994.

Born in New York and studying dance since 5 yrs old and art since 2 yrs old, Suzanne has performed for audiences all her life. She studied ballet for 10 yrs in New York and Arizona. Moving on to Modern Dance in high school & college; she also studied jazz, acting, Flamenco Dance & hula, as well as a short career in modeling. Studying belly dance in New York, Cairo & Alexandria Egypt, as well as with many Master Teachers who have visited Hawaii, including: Ibrahim Farrah, Yousry Sharif, Serena Wilson, Shareen el Safy, Amaya, Horacio Cifuentes, Sabrina Fox, Dalia Carella and many more. She began studying Balinese Temple Dance in 2001, and has performed “Oleg Tamalinglinggan” several times.

Her performances in Egypt, both Cairo & Alexandria in 1983, 1985, and1996 were only outdone by her shows in Russia & Ukraine in 1994 where artists are given the highest social regard. She was scheduled to do only two shows on the TS Marshall Kershevoi on the Neiper River Ukraine, and ended up not only performing 6 shows, but also teaching the crew & a dancer belly dance and hula. Other cruise ships she performed on include: MV Pacific Princess, the Love Boat of TV fame, TS Maxim Gorkiy and MS Delphin where she was asked to continue the cruise as a performer for 2 legs of the sail.

With TV, radio & film performances in several states, she enjoyed being interviewed on Hawaiian Moving Company, Pamela Young’s Mixed Plate, and featured on Joe Moore’s TV News. She had a speaking part in a French film made in Switzerland, where she lived for 2 yrs. Her convention work included 8 yrs as the featured belly dancer for Tihati Productions in the: Raiders of the Lost Ark Shows, Casablanca Shows and for the first flight of the French Concorde to Hawaii in the International Show.

Suzanne Hamdi has performed in every Middle Eastern venue & hotel in Hawaii on Oahu, Kauai & Maui since 1982; as well as in many tavernas in the Greek Isles. In Egypt, she performed at Cave Du Roi, El Leil & Sahara City, among other clubs and private parties in Alexandria. In Istanbul, Turkey she performed at the Galata Tower and several other clubs. She was also the opening act for the Bill Cosby Show at the First Hawaiian Wine Festival held at the Waikiki Shell. Also she performed at the Aloha Stadium for the half-time show at the Pro Bowl Hawaii along with Danny Kalekini.

She was Artistic Director/Choreographer for many stage productions in Hawaii including: 18 Middle Eastern Belly Dance Shows at the St. James Court Heritage Fair in the Waikiki Shell, the Annual Greek Festival at McCoy Pavilion, Pearl Harbor’s 4th of July celebrations, “Hawaii’s Premiere Belly Dancers” at Ala Moana Center Stage, University of Hawaii’s East-West Center celebrations, Fete De La Musique or Make

Music Festival Hawaii; included in the first world wide video, Istanbul Restaurant and more.

Suzanne Hamdi taught belly dance at Pearl Harbor Bloch Arena for 6yrs and at the University of Hawaii as faculty for 8yrs. She is the Artistic Director/Choreographer of the Dancers of Isis established in 2001. She continues to teach classes in Moiliili area on Saturday from 10:30am to 11:30am.

Having a gift for languages, she has speaking knowledge of 9 languages including fluency in French, Spanish and ability to read & write, speak Arabic.

Suzanne has over 15yrs experience in psychic/spiritual readings: trained in the most congruent & modern technique of aura reading. She has performed on an hourly basis at parties & Psychic Fairs via a Spiritual Channel doing: palmistry, crystal ball, trance and transpersonal counseling. She will not perform for gambling purposes due to ethics.

She has been studying painting; oil, acrylic and pastels at the Honolulu Academy of Art since 2000. Her inspirations include: Monet, Cezanne, Chagall as well as living in the most beautiful islands in the world, Hawaii and Bali. Her instructors include: Linda Kane, Paul Levitt and Andrew Rose, among others.

Suzanne Hamdi became an American Council on Exercise certified Personal Trainer on 31 October 2004. She has attended the ACE Convention in Las Vegas 2008, ACE Convention in San Diego 2010 and the International Dance and Exercise Association (IDEA) World Fitness Convention in San Diego 2012.

Awards and Accomplishments:

 

Academic & Social: Senior Award & member of Gamma Sigma Delta, the honor society of Agriculture. Graduated #1 and was Class Representative with BS from College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at University of Hawaii Manoa. She was a Universal Scholarship and Hawaii Merit Scholarship recipient. For 2 years was President of Federal Women’s Program Hawaii overseeing 6,000 Federally employed women.

Group Exhibitions: “Balinese Prayer” oil painting at Honolulu Academy of Art Linekoa 2010. Monthly showings at Art & Flea Fresh Café, Honolulu since Aug 2011, monthly showings First Friday Chinatown in Mendoca Building since Sept 2012.

Dance: Member Orchesis, Modern Dance Honor Society, at Camelback High School, Arizona. Member/performer Waikiki Acrobatic Troupe. Number 2 Audience Award for belly dance at Galata Tower in Istanbul, Turkey. Passionate Papyrus Pineapple Award 2004 from Pineapple Shake & Bake Festival Hawaii by Amaya. Inducted as member of UNESCO’s International Dance Council or CID in 2005 and included in Global Dance Directory. Finale Dancer at “Pulse of the Orient” show at Aloha Tower Waterfront 2011.
